A Loud Imagination
Inspiration for A Loud Imagination
As an artist it is often hard to keep up with all the ideas that come to mind. This overflow of ideas, as well as this years socioeconomic situation is what inspired this work. The painting portrays a woman surrounded by various elements that all ties back to what inspires me and where my imagination tends to wander. The mouth of the woman is covered by a mask, as is compulsory in public situations in these times. It is with the covid-19 pandemic that I had discovered just how loud my imagination can be as I had been left to my own devices.
The mask and crown on top of the dolphins head both refer back to the Corona Virus pandemic. The butterflies, dolphin, and birds portrays the longing for freedom as well as my biggest sources of inspiration: nature and the ocean. The hands are placed in a similar position to that in “The Creation of Adam” by Michelangelo, to show how inspiration is often drawn from historically famous artworks, it also refers to a phrase in that work’s title “The Creation…” this reference portrays how the imagination is the fuel driving inspiration.
