Gypsy Soul - Symbolic Painting 30x90cm

This girl is uprooted but happy, see the content expression on her face. I took a photo of a waitress in a coffee shop in Sandton long ago and always knew I want to paint her, she had a winsome look, I used her as reference for this painting.

Having a bit of a Gypsy Soul myself, a lot of my paintings tend to have themes about floating and moving. You learn to become detached to things, you become content with the little you have and build your own magic world with what you have where you are. The nest and egg is about protection and the birth of new beginnings and opportunities.

The feather the messages from angels, the Origami crane is for healing.

“Traditionally, it was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one’s wish would come true.
It has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times.
As a result, it has become popular to fold 1000 cranes (in Japanese, called “senbazuru”). The cranes are strung together on strings – usually 25 strings of 40 cranes each – and given as gifts.”  See more in a blogpost in Uncover Art in Japan

The old South African coin is a 1c coin with the Sparrows on it: The Biblical meaning:

Matthew 10:29-31
Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
