The immensely popular Jakkalsvlei Food and Wine pairings will take a step up to a new level at the next instalment. On Sunday 4 October 2015, patrons will be able to enjoy a four-course lunch menu each paired with a Jakkalsvlei wine; as well as enjoy the launch of local Mossel Bay artist Mariaan Kotzé’s latest exhibition.
Kotzé is very excited for what will be her final exhibition in the area before relocating to the North West Province at the end of the year. “The beautiful setting and the feeling of the lovely tasting room where my exhibition will be makes Jakkalsvlei the perfect venue,” the artist said.
“I will build the exhibition around a wine theme, old vintage cork screw’s wine bottles and books and food,” she commented, before adding, “but my art has a way of running away with me, I usually start out with a theme and without planning it, it moves in another direction, it will therefore include more symbolic, contemporary work away from the theme.”
Kotzé’s exhibition will feature a few functional art pieces and decorative objects to add her off-beat trademark to the event. “I like to ‘build’ stories, having a painting supported by painted furniture and a fun object together with that,” she said. The exhibition will run from 4 to 29 October at Jakkalsvlei and will be free to view after the opening day.
The menu for the day will once again be created by Thomas Potgieter, the renowned chef who is a long-time friend of the farm. Chef Thomas has designed a delectable summer menu that features peppered hake, pork fillet, chicken breast fillets and a vanilla panna cotta for dessert. If the previous food and wine pairing events are anything to go by, this one will sell out fast, so get your tickets now.
