You might think I am just an artist and that I sit and paint every day, with nothing other than paintings on my mind.
Reality is, I need to think about stuff like paying bills and keeping everything together financially, all those things people with “normal” jobs, whatever normal might be… have to think about.
My financial intelligence is not what it should be, actually, it is almost none existent, as an artist, the painting part comes easier to me than things like admin and budgeting and planning.
It is so much easier to escape in a so called “fantasy world” of symbols and color and images, living from day to day… rather than figuring out how real life with finances work…
A few years ago I realized that I need to “educate” myself in the field of “money”, so to speak.
Above little bundle of books are only a few of the books I read, others were borrowed, some are in storage, some was audio books or youtube talks…
It was only recently that “the penny dropped” and that I realized that I was doing everything wrong all these years!
I read and read and read, bút, (and here I am tempted to use the word “f…”!) I got nowhere!!!
Have consistency, drill in what you read:
I started art classes with Marco Kuhn , and, although Marco is an artist and a brilliant one I must add, he is not so totally right brained orientated than most artists I know. He has structure in his life and a totally different approach to capturing information than I have.
They say creative people are right brain people, theories about the brain by Kobus Neethling will explain that better.
Marco has a strong left brain component in his head as well!
I read lots of books but all those information “got lost” somehow, now I realized that I should practice what I read…!
Marco taught me that I should read fewer books, summarise them and take time to apply that information to my life…
Now I try to have a bit of structure. Three days a week for doing commissions, illustrations, and more commercial paintings, Tuesdays for art class and for my own art sprouting out of my heart, which is almost always not easy sellers, a day for admin, blogging and website updates…and, Sundays I try to rest…
I must say, I do struggle with it, I don’t even have a structure in real life with routines with my kids, or preparing food! So this is really so very very difficult for me, but I am getting there, bit by bit…
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill:
In this blog post, I want to share a few of the quotes out of Think and grow Rich with you, combined with my art. And best of all, if you click on the link, you will get the book for free in a pdf format. Do yourself a favor and read it…if you need it…
This book is the start of my new approach to reading books. I read this book years ago, but what the heck… I could just as well not have read it as I never did anything Napoleon recommended in the book…
Now I worked through it, summarized it, and try, really try, to apply it to my life.
Napoleon Hill Quotes:
As I realize that a lot of you also struggle with the same issues than I do, I combined a few quotes with my art to use as reminders to keep us on track. in such a way that you will be able to use it as profile pictures and cover photo’s on Facebook and for you to share on Instagram and Pinterest to help you get motivated as well…
I tried to do it in such a way that you will be able to use it as profile pictures and cover photo’s on Facebook and for you to share on Instagram and Pinterest to help you get motivated as well…
Unfortunately, I am not very clued up with designing of images, hold thumbs that it will work!!
Here we go…
Feel free to share… (if possible) 😉
Facebook cover photos for you to use:
We tend to stick for too long to plans that do not work… cut your losses and run your profits…
“If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.”
Isn’t this the greatest quote!?
Apparently, goal setting is one of the most important aspects of everything.
