If you are like me and your pets play a big role in your life, you might enjoy my pet paintings.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
From time to time I get clients who ask me to paint their pets for them. These are always special commissions, not only because it is very personal, but also because I have two cats, and I, therefore, understand the deep love you can feel for your pets.
For the Love of Cats:
“What greater gift than the love of a cat?”
– Charles Dickens –
Sonskyn and Demi are the two newest editions to the Kotze household. We adopted both cats in 2018 at local animal shelters. You could say Demi was adopted as an emotional support animal of a kind, Sonskyn followed soon after as a surprise from my daughter who visited from the university. Little did we know what a positive impact these lovely animals would have on our family and even on my art.
The juxtaposition of our cats’ playfulness versus their somewhat tranquil nature inspires me to take a new discourse of a similar nature in my art: playful yet tranquil and the cats themselves often feature as the subject in my artworks.
And obviously I just HAVE to share my pretty cats with you.
As I am a cat lover, my cats are art lovers! Whenever I put a painting on the floor to take a photo, they climb on it, or…uhm, maybe they are not art lovers, maybe in their minds, they are photo models!
I spotted this Border Collie at Jakkalsvlei Wine Estate and I just had to paint him!
“Follow your soul, it knows the way”

” Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen”
– Orhan Pamuk –
” Home is where your Dachshund is.”
Another special dog commission. I find that people who commission me to paint their dogs, see their dogs as children, they are definitely more than just dogs.
I received a long email with various images attached one day. The email was from a lovely couple who wanted me to paint their four-legged, fluffy-tailed children. Each dog was described with such love and in so many details by the couple. They even told me what their dogs liked to play with and in what cars they used to drive with them. I had to do a painting that captured all the stories surrounding the lives of these pups. What an honor to be trusted with commissions like this.
This Boston Terrier-and-Kiewiet painting is for sale.
It is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas.
Oh, how I loved doing this painting! All black and white cat images I received to use in the painting immediately led me to give the painting a more decorative Art Deco poster feeling.
As in the opposite image, I’m sure that these cats lived up to that quote by Terry Pratchett:
” In ancient times, cats were worshipped as Gods, they did not forget this.”
” Be the person your dog thinks you are.”
Another great commission I did. This painting was done as a birthday gift for a beautiful girl.
I love doing commissions and it is always an honor to be part of my client’s stories. I would love to capture your pet-child on canvas and I offer a 20% discount for your first pet painting.
